Soldering can be intimidating, but it actually can be learned in under 15 minutes!
Soldering iron
Any will do, but Weller is a reliable well known brand
Solder
Kester is a good brand, but any will be fine
60-40 tin to lead ratio and 0.8mm for most applications
Don't worry about lead! It's much easier to work with than non-leaded solders. If you're worried, just wash your hands after. I can't be bothered to look it up, but studies say don't worry.
Wire tip cleaner - to wipe off excess solder
[Optional] flux pen
Mostly used for reworking sold joints
If you use leaded solder, you won't reach for this often
